Module description

In this module you will build on your knowledge and understanding of psychology theories, concepts and research gained in the study of previous modules at Levels 4 and 5. You will be able to apply and extend your understanding of a range of cognitive, social, emotional and societal factors by critically considering how they can impact on the educational experience of children and young people and the everyday practice of educators.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand different psychological theories and how they relate to educational settings
  • understand cognitive ability in the context of education
  • understand motivation theory and personality theory and the impact of motivation and personality in education
  • understand the spectrum of social and emotional ability and consider the impact of these abilities in education
  • understand school and other societal factors that impact on educational engagement and educational attainment
  • understand, interpret and evaluate relevant research and other reports
  • indicate some of the limitations of the theories and methods covered on this module with regard to real-world application.
